The OPERATION: THANK YOU! INDIANA NEWSLETTER

October 2008

We held a road block in Bright on Sept. 13th.  We collected more than three times what we would have ever hoped to collect!  The people of Bright are so generous and really care about our young men and women serving!  Thank You, Bright community!  We also made some great contacts that day-one being a parent of a soldier that we just recently received.  It is always neat to make a connection with the family!

We were at the last Bike Night at Willies for the season!  Another great time!  We met wonderful people who truly support our soldiers!  It is so wonderful to meet veterans!  Being new to military life, we have a whole new DEEP appreciation for their sacrifice!

We were at the tent sale in Lawrenceburg.  It was a nice day, not a lot of people. (Maybe the economy?)  It was a nice time for us to sit and catch our breath and plan out our Halloween Haunt for the Haunted Hayride in Oct.

Pigskin Pete on Eagle 99.3 WSCH mentions Operation Thank You every week, as a reminder that many of our young men and women serving our country now, played high school sports at one time.  Thanks Pete for the shout out!  We enjoy your show every Friday night!

The North Dearborn American Legion Post #452 made corn hole games and donated them for the troops!  I cannot say enough about these wonderful, honorable men!

Thank You so very much!

Stacey Hilgemans 5th grade class from Colerain Elementary wrote thinking of you and birthday cards for our soldiers.  We were able to send those all out!  It is so special to have messages from children!  I know those cards were enjoyed!  Thank You!

October started with a bang!  Personally, we had huge celebrations as my mother turned 70 and my parents celebrated 50 years of wedded bliss!  Congratulations!!!!

The Ohio Chapter had items to share with us, one of which was beanie babies.  One of our contacts told us early on that she visits Iraqi children on her off day.  We asked if we could send the beanie babies, and she was willing to share them with the kids.  Karen was so sweet to send an e-mail with photos of the children with the beanie babies! That was so cool!

We thought it would be so great to send real pumpkins in boxes surrounded by candy as a Halloween treat for the soldiers!  We packed up 60 boxes and had them ready to go, when we were warned not to send them!  Agriculture cannot be shipped over seas!  Who knew?  Great idea-but we didn’t want to chance it!  We aren’t looking for any trouble!  So we opted for just boxes of candy!

We participated in the Haunted Hayride in Hidden Valley and had a great time!  We were the pumpkin people!  As it turned out we had 60 pumpkins to give away!

We also spent the weekend of Oct. 18th and 19th at the Minges pumpkin festival!  It was a beautiful weekend, and we are so pleased that they allowed us to have a booth there!  We met so many wonderful people!  There was a soldier home on leave, so our soldier stalker Susie was able to get her hug!  We met the mom of one of our soldiers! How wonderful to get to hear about him from the person who knows him best!  She told us of her sons 21st birthday, and we were able to have many birthday cards signed that very day for Zach! It is so special to us to meet family members! We met Parents, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents, and we feel a special connection that really can’t be described in words!  The children making cards for the troops, is just incredible! Watching them taking their time and putting in so much effort, especially when there is such a flurry of activity around, just warms my heart!
